  • Salifert - KH/Alkalinity Test Kit

    Salifert - KH/Alkalinity Test Kit

    3 in stock

Ships with your livestock order!  Salifert KH/Alkalinity Profi-Test Calcium is not the only substance needed to form the skeletal material of corals and allow calcareous algae to grow. Carbonate and bicarbonate are also needed and these two substances can have a major effect on stabilizing or buffering pH levels in the aquarium in the correct range of 8.1 to 8.4. The total carbonate and bicarbonate concentration is also called alkalinity or carbonate hardness and for a stable system the alkalinity should not fluctuate by more than 5% from the optimum level of approx. 2.8 meq/L i.e. a maximum fluctuation of 0.14 meq/L. The Salifert test is sensitive enough to detect small changes in levels of alkalinity, measuring in steps of 0.1 meq/L and demonstrating a very sharp color change. Sufficient for 100 to 200 tests. The Salifert KH + pH buffer additive makes correction of the alkalinity or carbonate hardness simple and does not upset the pH of the system Can be used for marine water, frewshwater and garden pond water Warning! The KH/Alkalinity reageant contains a dye. Avoid spilling the dye on fabric and other materials since they may become stained. Keep out of reach of children. Not for consumption. *Discount codes cannot be applied to this product

    Brightwell Aquatics Alkalin8.3 - Liquid pH Buffer & Alkalinity (KH) - Builder 250mL / 8.5oz

    • Highly-effective alkalinity(KH)-increasing ("buffer") solution. • Helps increase pH stability in an aquarium by raising the alkalinity. • Provides a source of carbonates, which make up the majority by weight of aragonite, the mineral secreted by reef-building organisms as skeletal material. • Continued addition raises pH until 8.3 is reached, at which point the pH remains unchanged and the alkalinity alone increases. • Over 50% stronger than most competing products. • Free of phosphate, silicate, and organic material. • Formulated by a marine scientist. • Sale -17% AlgaGen ReefPODS Apocylops Live Aquacultured Copepods‎ 8oz

AlgaGen ReefPODS Apocylops Live Aquacultured Copepods‎ 8oz

    12 in stock

Product Details Apocylops panamensis. This copepod is a Cyclopoid, different from Calanoids and Harpacticoids. It behaves similar to a harpacticoid and somewhat like a calanoid copepod in that there is activity on the substrate and movement throughout the water column. This copepod comes from a shallow reef system in Panama. It lives slightly higher up in the water column than does Tisbe and, as such, will feed those organisms feeding in that level of the water column, including corals. Some culturists have had success raising this copepod on paste. We have great success using live algae but note that it will feed on detritus, and like Tisbe, it will help keep the tank clean. One should be able to achieve very hi-production densities in culture and the tank. This copepod is great for refugiums and as live coral food. Do not worry about pumps and skimmers as this copepod does not seem to be much affected by them. We recommend regular restocking of copepods to the tank due to copepods being a prime target in most marine organisms' food chains.

  • RedSea Reef Spec Carbon (100g)

    RedSea Reef Spec Carbon (100g)

    3 in stock

Introducing RedSea Reef Spec Carbon (100g): The Ultimate Solution for Pristine Aquarium Water! RedSea's Reef Spec Carbon is specifically designed to meet the rigorous demands of marine and reef aquariums, ensuring unparalleled water quality and clarity. With its advanced technical and physical characteristics, this premium-grade carbon effectively absorbs and swiftly removes organic pollutants, leaving your aquarium water crystal clear and free from any unpleasant odors. Why Use Carbon? Carbon is an essential component in aquarium filtration, renowned for its ability to trap and remove organic compounds that can cause water discoloration and foul odors. In a marine environment, where organic waste is continuously produced by aquarium inhabitants, the use of high-quality carbon is crucial for maintaining optimal water conditions and supporting a healthy aquatic ecosystem. Media Bag or Reactor? For maximum efficiency and performance, we recommend utilizing RedSea's Reef Spec Carbon in an up-flow style reactor. This configuration ensures consistent contact time and optimal utilization of the carbon's absorption capabilities. While filter or media bags can also be used, they may not provide the same level of efficiency and may require more frequent replacement to maintain water clarity. Usage Guide: Organic Load and Yellow Tint Removal: Add approximately 50g (100ml) of Reef Spec Carbon per 200L (50 gallons) of water for 1-2 months in a moderately stocked reef aquarium to effectively remove organic pollutants and eliminate yellow tint. Post-Medication Treatment: Use 100g (200ml) of Reef Spec Carbon per 200L (50 gallons) of water for one week to absorb medication residuals and ensure water purity after treatment. Ozone Post-Treatment: Employ 50g of Reef Spec Carbon per 50mg/hr of ozone injection to remove residual ozone. Place the carbon at the ozone reactor/protein skimmer outlet and replace it once it reaches approximately 50% of its original volume. Tips for Optimal Performance: Rinse any fines under tap water until it runs clear. Ensure a recommended flow rate of 250 - 400 GPH per 50g of Reef Spec Carbon to maximize absorption efficiency. Replace the carbon every 1.5 - 2 months to maintain peak performance and water clarity. Reef Spec Carbon Specifications: Shape: 0.6 - 2.3 mm flake Density: 0.48 g/ml Pore Volume (PV): 1.04 ml/g Total Surface Area (TSA): 1000 m²/g TSA/PV Ratio: 990 m²/ml Small Organic Adsorption: 1000mg/g Large Organic Adsorption: 280 mg/g pH in Distilled Water: >8 Phosphate Output: 0.000001 g/ml Includes Filter Bag Elevate your aquarium filtration and maintain pristine water conditions with RedSea Reef Spec Carbon, the ultimate choice for discerning marine and reef enthusiasts. • Brightwell - Magnesion - Liquid Magnesium Reef Additive (250ml)

Brightwell - Magnesion - Liquid Magnesium Reef Additive (250ml)

    10 in stock

Overview Highly-concentrated ionic magnesium solution. Provides magnesium, which helps regulate the balance between calcium and carbonates in aquarium water. Stronger than most competing products. Contains no unwanted organic material such as EDTA, gluconate, or polygluconate. Instructions and GuidelinesBasic: Shake product well before using. Add 5 ml (1 capful) of product per 20 US-gallons of aquarium water every other day or as needed to maintain the magnesium concentration within a range of 1,290 - 1,320 ppm. When used in this fashion, 250 ml treats up to 1,000 US-gallons (3,785 L).Advanced: Determine the magnesium concentration in the aquarium using an accurate test kit before supplementing. Shake this product well before using. Each ml of Magnesion will increase the concentration of magnesium (“[Mg2+]”) in 1 US-gallon (3.785 L) of water by 26 ppm. If the initial [Mg2+] in the aquarium is below 1,288 ppm, add this product at the maximum rate of 10 ml per 20 US-gallons daily until the desired concentration is attained, then dose daily or weekly as needed (see below). Always try to maintain the [Mg2+] within a range of +/-10 ppm. To determine the dosing rate of this product once the desired [Mg2+] has been acquired, measure the daily rate of magnesium uptake (i.e. the decrease in magnesium) in your aquarium by measuring the aquarium's [Mg2+] at the same time each day over a one- to two-week period. To determine the daily dosing rate (preferable to weekly dosing) for magnesium maintenance: estimate the volume of water in the entire aquarium system; divide the daily decrease in [Mg2+] by 26; multiply this number by the volume of water in the system to get the daily dosage required (ml) to maintain a stable [Mg2+]. Daily dosing maintains a more stable [Mg2+] (and more natural environment) than dosing weekly, in which the [Mg2+] spikes just after dosing and then gradually decreases throughout the course of the week. Caution: Keep out of reach of children. Not for human consumption. Guaranteed AnalysisMagnesium (min) 2,959 mg/oz. (100,000 ppm) IngredientsPurified water, Magnesium sulfate, Magnesium chlorideTechnical BackgroundMagnesium plays a vital role in reef aquaria: it helps maintain calcium and carbonate (composing the majority of measurable alkalinity) concentrations by limiting unwanted inorganic precipitation with each other. In the absence of adequate magnesium ions, calcium and carbonate ions bond rapidly, depleting their concentrations in the system and creating the false impression that heavier supplementation is required to re-establish the desired concentrations. No matter how much calcium is added, its natural seawater concentration of 412 ppm will never be sustained until the magnesium concentration begins to approach 1,290 ppm. Once the balance between calcium and magnesium has been established, subsequent calcium supplementation yields immediate positive results. Keeping magnesium within a range of 1,290-1,320 ppm will maintain the desired balance, and provides enough of the element to reef-building organisms for the formation of aragonite (~0.10% Mg by weight). The rate at which magnesium is extracted from the water is determined by the stocking density of reef-building livestock, type of lighting, and other conditions; therefore, each aquarium will have different requirements for the rate of magnesium supplementation. Once the rate of magnesium uptake in the aquarium has been determined, the proper dosing rate of this product can be easily calculated. It is recommended that a quality salt mix with the proper (not augmented) alkalinity and concentrations of major, minor, and trace elements be used to establish natural seawater parameters in the reef aquarium, providing a stable ionic foundation on which to build. All Brightwell Aquatics liquid water care supplements are made with purified water and high purity materials. We develop formulae for aquaria based on empirical data, using observation and measurement rather than theory. Ships with your livestock order! *Discount codes cannot be applied to this product

  • Salifert - Flatworm Exit

    Salifert - Flatworm Exit

    3 in stock

Ships with your livestock order!   Flatworm eXit itself is quite safe to fish and invertebrates. However, the body juice of flatworms can be toxic to some reef inhabitants when present in a too high concentration. This body juice is sometimes excreted when flatworms die.So when you use this product it is important to do the following first: Siphon out as many flatworms as possible. Keep sufficient fresh activated carbon in a canister ready. Turn off UV, ozone and remove activated carbon. Keep the skimmer turned on. Important remarksBelow given remarks are a.o. meant to reduce the amount of the flatworm`s toxic body juices in the water. Many people have treated their reef tank(s) successfully using Flatworm eXit without any problems. The most important factors are reducing the number of flatworms before commencing with the treatment and reducing the amount of the flatworm`s body juice, released when they die, as fast as possible.Do not underestimate the number of flatworms in your system. In a few cases a significant number of flatworms can be hiding in, for example, crevices. Blow in such and any other potential hiding places, water, to blow any flatworm out of there. For that purpose you can use a powerhead or a turkey baster. Siphon out those flatworms as well.Furthermore, do not underestimate the amount of toxic body-juices these flatworms can excrete. This can be reduced significantly by really siphoning out the flatworms before commencing with the treatment. Further significant reduction is accomplished by siphoning out as many dead flatworms as you can.Any body juice released by the dead flatworms in the water has to be reduced further by using about 1 pound of fresh high quality carbon for every 50 gallons. The carbon has to be used in a canister with a sufficient forced water flow.Take sufficient time for treating the tank. That is, do not treat your tank in a hurry. Also, take time to monitor your tank for at least 6 hours after the treatment. It is also wise to have at least 25% water ready for a water change if required.   *Discount codes cannot be applied to this product

  • API Nitrate Test Kit

    API Nitrate Test Kit

    4 in stock

Measures nitrate levels in both fresh & saltwater aquariums. Tests nitrate levels from 0 to 160 ppm. 90 tests per kit.Freshwater/Saltwater Nitrate Test Instructions:Why Test For Nitrate?Nitrate (NO3-) is produced in the aquarium by the biological filter. Beneficial bacteria in the biological filter convert toxic ammonia and nitrite into nitrate. A high nitrate level indicates a build-up of fish waste and organic compounds, resulting in poor water quality and contributing to the likelihood of fish disease. Excessive nitrate also provides a nitrogen source that can stimulate algal blooms. In the opinion of many aquarists, maintaining a low nitrate level improves the health of fish and invertebrates.Testing Tips:This test kit reads total nitrate (NO3-) level in parts per million (ppm) which are equivalent to milligrams per liter (mg/L) from 0 ppm to 160 ppm, in either fresh or saltwater aquariums. This kit includes two Nitrate Test Color Charts — one for freshwater aquariums, and one for saltwater aquariums — so be sure to use the correct chart for your type of aquarium when interpreting test results. The Freshwater Nitrate Test Color Chart is the appropriate chart to use for testing freshwater aquariums to which salt has been added. This test kit measures nitrate as nitrate ion or “total nitrate.” Other nitrate test kits that measure “nitrate-nitrogen” (NO3-N) will give readings 4.4 times LESS than this test kit.Directions for Testing Nitrate: Read thoroughly before testing. Do not allow Test Solutions to get into aquarium. To remove childproof safety cap: With one hand, push red tab left with thumb while unscrewing cap with free hand. Fill a clean test tube with 5 ml of water to be tested (to the line on the tube). Add 10 drops from Nitrate Test Solution Bottle # 1, holding dropper bottle upside down in a completely vertical position to assure uniformity of drops added to the water sample. Cap the test tube and invert tube several times to mix solution. Do not hold finger over the open end of the tube, as this may affect test results. Vigorously shake the Nitrate Test Solution Bottle # 2 for at least 30 seconds. This step is extremely important to insure accuracy of test results. Now add 10 drops from Nitrate Test Solution Bottle #2, holding dropper bottle upside down in a completely vertical position to assure uniformity of drops to the water sample. Cap the test tube and shake vigorously for one minute. This step is extremely important to insure accuracy of test results. Wait five minutes for the color to develop. Read the test results by matching the color of the solution against those on the Nitrate Test Color Chart. The tube should be viewed against the white area beside the color chart. Color comparisons are best made in a well-lit area. The closest match indicates the ppm (mg/L) of nitrate in the water sample. Rinse the test tube with clean water after each use. What The Test Results Mean:In new freshwater and saltwater aquariums the nitrate level will gradually climb as the biological filter becomes established. A nitrate level of 40 ppm (mg/L) or less is recommended for freshwater aquariums. Many marine aquarists prefer to keep nitrate levels as low as possible, especially when keeping invertebrates.Monitoring Nitrate Levels:Regular testing for nitrate is an essential part of routine aquarium maintenance. Aquarium water should be tested for nitrate once a week to make sure the nitrate does not reach an undesirable level.Reducing Nitrate in the Aquarium:In FreshwaterUse Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Nitra-Zorb™ to remove nitrate from freshwater aquariums. Nitra-Zorb is a rechargeable filtration material that removes nitrate from freshwater. Making partial water changes can also help reduce the nitrate level, especially if the initial nitrate level is very high. However, because many tap water supplies contain nitrate, it can be difficult to lower nitrate levels by this method. Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap Water Purifier will remove all pollutants, including nitrate, from tap water, making water changes effective. The Tap Water Purifier makes any tap water perfect aquarium water. In SaltwaterPartial water changes are the easiest way to lower the nitrate in a saltwater aquarium. Keep in mind, however, that the biological filter constantly produces nitrate. Also, because many tap water supplies contain nitrate, it can be difficult to lower nitrate levels by this method. Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap Water Purifier will remove all pollutants, including nitrate, from the tap water— making water changes effective. The Tap Water Purifier makes any tap water perfect aquarium water.DANGER: HARMFUL Xn & CORROSIVE C Bottle #1 contains 41% Hydrochloric acid Causes burns Irritating to respiratory system Harmful if swallowed Keep locked up and out of the reach of children In case of contact with eyes or skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water (at least 15 minutes) and seek medical advice immediately Remove contaminated clothing Wear suitable gloves and eye/face protection In case of accident or if you feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately (show label where possible). Chemiclean Red Slime Cyano Bacteria Remover

    3 in stock

Cynobacteria is usually encouraged with the presence of nitrate and ammonia, which are both fixed forms of nitrogen. Chemi-clean helps clean and remove this problem algae through its own unique process. Most other red slime removers use purely antibiotics, namely erythromycin, to take care of the algae. The use of such substances within your aquarium can have disastrous effects upon your nitrifying bacteria and cause your tank to crash, killing the inhabitants of your aquarium. The use of Chemi-clean not only as a problem solver when red slime is present, but as a regular maintenance procedure will help keep your water crystal clear and your tank free of unwanted cynobacteria. For best results, turn off UV sterilizer or Ozonizer and Protein Skimmer. Remove Chemi-Pure or Carbon Filtration for 24 hours following each treatment. It is advisable to do at least a 20% water change after full treatment. You must use an air stone when using Chemi-Clean. Place airstone in the aquarium prior to and during treatment. Features: Removes disease causing red cyanobacteria (red slime) from live coral. Removes red slime, black, blue-green and bubble producing algae. Oxidizes trapped organic sludge and sediment. Clarifies aquarium water to crystal clear. Promotes ideal enzyme balance. Contains no phosphates, algaecides or erythromycin succinate. Safe for reef tanks, all invertebrates, desirable macro algaes, nitrifying bacteria and fish. Treats up to 300 Gallons. • Brightwell - MicroBacter 7 - Complete Bioculture (125ml)

    Brightwell - MicroBacter 7 - Complete Bioculture (125ml)

Complex system of non-pathogenic aerobic and anaerobic microbes, as well as natural enzymes, specifically formulated to establish biological filtration in new aquarium set-ups, and to enhance the rate of nitrification, denitrification, and organic waste degradation in marine and freshwater aquaria through complete nutrient remineralization.Supplied in a state of suspended animation for maximum longevity.Formulated utilizing extensive data compiled by microbiologists. Benefits Rapid reduction of organic carbon, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and phosphate. Digestion of uneaten/undigested food, excreta, detritus, and other latent organic material, resulting in cleaner and healthier aquarium substrate Reduction of organic compounds into nutrients that encourage the growth of photosynthetic organisms Greatly-reduced hydrogen sulfide production. Increase in dissolved oxygen concentration. Limits availability of pre-existing phosphate to undesirable forms of algae and cyanobacteria. Increased water clarity. Instructions and GuidelinesShake product well before using. Mix appropriate volume of MicrōBacter7 (see below) with 250-ml (~8 fl. oz.) of aquarium water in a clean container prior to addition to aquarium. If using a pipette to dispense MicrōBacter7 below water level of container or aquarium, be sure to thoroughly clean pipette with fresh water prior to placing tube back into MicrōBacter7 bottle; failure to do so will contaminate the product. Best results may be obtained by adding mixture to external biological filtration system (if applicable). Do not add to pump intake port(s). For best results, use within 1-year of purchase date. Grossly overdosing MicrōBacter7 will not significantly increase the effectiveness of the product, nor the rate at which it enacts changes in aquaria. The following recommendations are based upon extensive testing and will produce the best results in most aquaria.Medium- to High-nutrient Systems, or to seed Biological Filtration in new aquaria: To effectively decrease the concentration of available nutrients and waste material in all marine and freshwater aquaria, add 5 ml (1 capful) per 25 US-gallons (94.6 L) [≈4 drops per gallon (3.8 L)] of aquarium water daily for the first two weeks of use; the impact that MicrōBacter7 has on an aquarium is most evident within this period. Turn protein skimming and UV-sterilization off for a period of 4 hours following addition to aquaria. A noticeable difference in water clarity is typically apparent within 30-minutes of dosing. Follow same instructions for new aquarium start-up. Thereafter, switch to “low-nutrient” dosage (below).Stable, Low-nutrient Systems:To maintain a low concentration of available nutrients in all marine and freshwater aquaria, 5 ml (1 capful) of MicrōBacter7 per 50 US-gallons (189.3 L) [≈2 drops per gallon (3.8 L)] of aquarium water no more than once each week; alternately, add 1 drop per 50 US-gallons daily (or 1 drop per 25 US-gallons every other day). Turn protein skimming and UV-sterilization off for a period of 4 hours following addition to aquaria. Dosage may be adjusted according to perceived benefit to aquarium, however it is recommended that the dosage not exceed 1 drop per 10 US-gallons per day. With time, hobbyists may determine that decreasing the dosage and/or dosing frequency by up to 50% sufficiently maintains a low-nutrient environment. During changes in biological filtration or when increasing the aquarium bioload, dose 1 drop per 25 US-gallons daily for one week, then resume “low-nutrient” dosage.CautionKeep out of reach of children. Not for human consumption.IngredientsPurified water, proprietary blend of natural enzymes and non-pathogenic, beneficial microorganisms.Technical BackgroundThe concentration of dissolved and particulate organic materials in any aquatic environment can have a significant impact on the overall appearance of, as well as the health of organisms residing within, that system. Relatively low-nutrient environments are characterized by high water clarity, lack of unpleasant odors, and absence of microalgae and cyanobacteria; this is collectively a result of the lack of nitrogen-, phosphorus-, and carbon-based waste available. Aquaria that are relatively rich in available nutrients have characteristics opposite to the afore mentioned, and are typically not desirable because of the resultant appearance of the system and the difficulty of maintaining healthy aquarium inhabitants.Brightwell Aquatics MicrōBacter7 is a selective complex of extremely effective microbes and enzymes that rapidly reduces the concentrations of organic nitrogen, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, and organic carbon in all marine and freshwater ecosystems, leading to greatly improved water quality; better water quality typically leads to healthier aquarium inhabitants. Test reads 0 to 10 mg/ or parts per million (ppm) of phosphate. Helps to decrease the likelyhood og having unsightly algae and green water blooms.Test kit of 150 tests. Why test for Phosphate?Phosphate enters the aquarium from fish and invertebrate waste and decaying organic matter, such as dead algae and uneaten fish food. Water treatment facilities may add phosphate to tap water to prevent pipe corrosion and reduce concentrations of heavy metals in drinking water.Unnecessary phosphate may cause an undesirable cloud or tint in aquarium water. In saltwater aquariums, phosphate precipitates dissolved calcium (Ca2+) and magnesium (Mg2+) ions, inhibiting the growth of hard corals and other reef-building organisms.Testing Tips:The Phosphate Test Kit reads the total phosphate level in parts per million (ppm), which are equivalent to milligrams per liter (mg/L) from 0 ppm (mg/L) to 10.0 ppm (mg/L), in either freshwater or saltwater aquariums. There are two Phosphate Test Color Charts – one for freshwater aquariums, and one for saltwater aquariums – so be sure to use the correct chart for your type of aquarium when interpreting test results. The Freshwater Phosphate Test Color Chart is the appropriate chart to use for testing freshwater aquariums to which salt has been added or for testing a pond.Directions for Testing Phosphate Levels Read thoroughly before testing. Do not allow test solutions to get into aquarium. To remove childproof safety cap: With one hand, push red tab left with thumb while unscrewing cap with free hand. Fill the test tube with 5ml of water to be tested (to the line on the tube). Add 6 drops from Phosphate Test Solution Bottle #1 to the test tube, holding the dropper bottle upside down in a completely vertical position to assure uniformity of drops added to the water sample. Cap and shake the test tube vigorously for 5 seconds. Add 6 drops from Phosphate Test Solution Bottle #2 to the test tube, holding the dropper bottle upside down in a completely vertical position to assure uniformity of drops added to the water sample. Bottle #2 has a very thick solution and may require increased pressure while squeezing to release drops. Cap and shake the test tube vigorously for 5 seconds. Wait 3 minutes for full color to develop. After waiting 3 minutes. read the test results by matching the test solution against the appropriate Phosphate Test Color Chart. The tube should be viewed against the white area beside the color chart. Color comparisons are best made in a well-lit area. The closest match indicates the ppm (mg/L) of total phosphate (PO3–4) in the water sample. Rinse the test tube with clean water after each use. What the Test Results Mean:Ideally, the phosphate level should be zero in saltwater aquariums and freshwater aquariums or ponds, including those containing live plants. The phosphate level in a new aquarium will depend on the purity of the water used to fill the aquarium. Phosphate level in tap water can vary daily depending on the treatment process used. Phosphate tends to accumulate in established aquariums.Reducing Phosphate using Phos-Zorb™:To continually remove phosphate from the aquarium, use Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Phos-Zorb. Phos-Zorb is a special filtration resin that removes phosphate and silicate ions from freshwater and saltwater aquariums.Reducing Phosphate by Water Changes:To quickly reduce phosphate levels, perform a partial water change. Remove any dirt and uneaten fish food from the bottom of the aquarium and change 25% to 50% of the water, depending on the phosphate concentration. To be sure the water source does not contain phosphate, use the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap Water Filter™ to remove all unwanted phosphate before adding water to your aquarium.Corrosive: Bottle #1: Contains sulfuric acid.
